On Thursday, November 19th, about 70 people gathered in Heeren Hall on the campus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary to hear the Doctoral Dissertation of Myung Whan Kim. Better known to the Vine Street family as Johann, Kim’s masterful score set some of the most familiar passages regarding Jesus Christ to music. Originally presented over a period of weeks at VSBC, a few new pieces were presented for the first time as part of the complete work.
“I could really see the wedding in my mind,” said Chandler Bainter of the passage where Jesus turned the water into wine (the first Miracle). “I think I cried a bit when I thought about the parable of the Prodigal Son,” he continued.
After the program, Kim presented his Doctoral Committee with first edition CDs of the completed work, which included the Biblical texts read in English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. The committee was comprised of Dr. Philip Landgrave, Dr. Douglas Smith, and Dr. Thomas Bolton.
“I am blessed that God would use me like this. I give all glory to Him for giving me more vision to use this for ministry,” Kim said at the conclusion of the evening. Kim is currently producing The Miracles and Parables of JESUS CHRIST in many different languages, so missionaries can present this to people who are interested in listening to music and would otherwise not hear the Word of God. Coming soon, the texts will be available on CDs in Spanish, French, Creole, Malaysian, Indonesian, Hindu, Nigerian, Romanian and German.
