On this first Sunday of Lent, members and guests at Vine Street Baptist Church were introduced to the start of a new sermon series. Before the sermon, the gathered read scripture and sang songs.

The service started when Deacon Joe Gross read Psalm 16 and said a prayer. Dr. Johann Kim, the Minister of Praise and Worship, reflected how Jesus was represented in the passage’s description of His sacrifice and suffering, but that we still have hope. Dr. Kim led the congregation in hymns and songs

  • What Wondrous Love is This
  • I Extol You
  • I Offer My Life
  • In Christ Alone

After a time of fellowship and announcements, Pastor Ben Dockery spoke a pastoral prayer, then Bob Cull read Romans 4:1-14. For the offertory, Pianist Mia Kim played an arrangement of The Old Rugged Cross. Just before Associate Pastor Dwayne Ewers took to the pulpit, the choir sang Near to the Cross, which was written by Dana Mengel.

To open our focused study over the books of Acts, Ewers presented an overview of the book and how it related to Luke. The full audio can be heard by clicking on a date link below, or right-click and select “Save As” to save the file to your computer.  Click on the scripture reference to follow along with the reading.
