Today’s service opened with a reading of Psalm 36 by Betty Jeffries. She followed this with prayer. Minister of Worship and Praise, Johann Kim, reinforced the passed by leading the congregation through two songs:
- Praise the Lord! Ye Heavens, Adore Him
- Praise Him! Praise Him
Kim transitioned the opening worship set with a some songs of prayer:
- Purify My Heart
- Meekness and Majesty
After a time of welcoming members and guests, the choir ensemble sang “Face to Face with Christ, My Savior” with the congregation joining them on the last stanza. Today’s Pastoral Prayer was prefaced with an introduction of today’s guest preacher before Deacon Wally Jeffries lead the prayer.
Mickie Bainter continued the weekly series of scripture readings from Kim’s composition of the “Miracles and Parables of Jesus.” Today’s reading was taken from Luke 15:11-32, the story of the Prodigal Son. At the end of the reading, the music continued and allowed one and all to sing “Lord, I’m Coming Home.”
After the offering was collected, the gathered heard a message presented by guest preacher, Devin Maddox.
Maddox opened the message with a reading of the Galatians 6:1-5. In this passage, Paul addresses the religious group who were following the law and wanting to change people physically as they came to know the Lord. Paul, however, reminded everyone that Christ freed us from the law and the physical change is not necessary. This points out that people would rather have a cut-and-dry law to follow than to follow the freedom found in Christ. Paul challenges us to look deeper than just following the law and to start measuring yourself against living for Christ.
